Tres Sabores - Porque No?

We had a surprise visitor yesterday - Julie Johnson, winegrower/owner/founder of Tres Sabores Winery in Napa Valley! Julie has deep roots in Napa Valley winegrowing. She co-founded Frog's Leap Vineyard with her ex-husband John Williams. Julie is also co-founder, with Michaela Rodeno, of Women for Winesense. Their son, Rory, works for Frog's Leap, and makes wine for his own label, Calder Wine Company, at the Tres Sabores winery. 

We have known Julie for years, having carried her wines - especially her "Porque No?" - at our previous store. She didn't know if we would have time to taste, but she came prepared - and we were not going to pass up the opportunity to taste her delicious range of wine. Owning and organically farming grapevines in the heart of Rutherford, Napa Valley, gives Julie tremendous raw material to work with. The result is wine with varietal intensity and terroir.

If we had the space and the budget, we'd have every one of Julie's six wines on our shelves. For now we will get started with "Porque No?" - her delicious blend of Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah and Syrah; and Ingrid & Julia (as in "Ingrid Bergman" and "Julia Childs" roses, Julie's favorites); a dry, fragrant, sappy rosé made from Zinfandel and Petite Sirah.
